The Early Years
During the cold winter of 2004, Vinternatt came about. The band was started by Koen T. and Stef M. as a way to set their musical ideas into reality. Shortly after finding a drummer in Alex B. and having young singing talent Bert B. join forces, they started writing material. There was still need for a second guitar player - hence the melodic and harmonic nature of our music. Philip B. was the man to do the job and after that we could really take a start. After some months of songwriting we felt there was some atmosphere and harmony missing in the music. Therefore we decided to add violins to our music. Kerstin V. proved suitable for the job and so we went on as a 6-headed band.

Yggdrasil
2006 marked the beginning of more to come as we decided to make a CDemo. As there is no use in making a garage-style recording, we decided to go into the Grindhouse Studio's to record and mix the demo. Mastering was done by CCRstudio's (Aborted, Leng Tch'e, ...) and Harbinger Design made us the beautiful artwork. So far, we've received a lot of great responses to the CDemo. Take a listen!

On the CDemo, our "style" can be best described as "Folk-inspired blackish metal with a tad of sexyness and melancholy". The lyrical concept in most of the "Yggdrasil" songs deal about pure metaphorical, existential ideas of spirit & conciousness whilest in others a more socio-critical undertone takes the upperhand.

Yggdrasil, as the CDemo is called, also brought a less favourable decision to drop Stef M. as our bassplayer. We found a new force pretty fast in the person of Jef V. A week after he joined we played two gigs and he officialy became the new bassplayer. Fortune was not on our side as drummer Alex B. decided to stop with the band, for personal reasons. We all wish him luck in his future music career. Jelle K. is the man that will support us from now on! First show with him was the biebob show.

Evolution:
Since the CDemo, Vinternatt has evolved into a band with a mature sound and music, partly to do with the new influences of drummer Jelle K. & bassplayer Jef V. yet still perfecting their typical melodical & melancholic sound ad summum ingenio et labore.
